In Paris, there is not only concern about how Unai Emery prepares his Paris Saint-Germain side for their trip to Real Madrid but also in the refereeing appointment for the fixture. The Ligue 1 side are still smarting from last season's Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona, in which they were furious with the officiating of Deniz Aytekin. Although the club did acknowledge a large portion of fault on the part of the players and Emery during the unforgivable disaster, they also believe that the refereeing on the night of the Blaugrana's epic comeback was calamitous.

PSG believe that the German committed a series of serious errors which hurt them on the night and allowed Barcelona to set up the momentous victory. What the French side want is to be respected within UEFA like other great and historic clubs across the continent. There is a belief that this is something which they haven't always had and want now to be the time that they are listened to.Therefore, PSG are keeping very close tabs on the referee who is picked for the game at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and the one which follows at the Parc des Princes.Once the official is announced, it will then be time for the Ligue 1 leaders to determine whether a man with the proper experience and personality for such a game was chosen, in order to avoid a repeat of the Aytekin incident. His appointment was one that came as a big surprise and in view of what happened, he was subsequently punished by UEFA by not returning to Champions League action until September. It is a point that PSG have already made at UEFA's headquarters after their defeat in Barcelona. As MARCA reported last year, they sent a report to European football's governing body with video clips and a dossier outlining all of the referee's errors and their displeasure about it.
