The TN Krishnan Foundation for Performing Arts has opened
its teaching centre in Besant Nagar, Chennai. A brainchild of Sangita
Kalanidhi Prof. T. N. Krishnan, one of India's senior most and respected
violinists, the foundation aims at the preservation and propagation of
classical arts, especially the violin style of the TN Krishnan school. The new
centre is located in Besant Nagar, at the HDFC Bank building opposite
Nilgiri's. The brief and simple inaugural function last
week was attended by a select band of well-wishers, students and admirers of
TN Krishnan. The function started off with a couple of vocal renditions by the
maestro himself! In a pure, chaste style he rendered Mahaganapthim (Nattai)
and Nada Tanumanisham (Chittaranjani), a rare treat for listeners who have
only heard the mellifluous notes of the maestro's violin. This was followed by
TN Krishnan's brief address outlining the work done since the launch of the
foundation a year ago and his future plans, including the activities at the
new centre. Representatives of the LANCOR group which is supporting
the foundation's activities were also present and one of them spoke with
enthusiasm about the support they were extending to TN Krishnan's efforts.
