A Tribute to Bharat Ratna Smt.
M.S. Subbulakshmi
An Audio-Visual, Music-and-Dance Confluence as
a tribute to the legendary nightingale of India. This tribute will be held on
March 3rd and 4th at the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts.
M. S. Subbulakshmi was a unifying force of
India, bringing together old and young, North and South, with her music
transcending all boundaries. National treasure that she is, it is only fit
that a tribute of this caliber occurs in the National Capital. The artists of
this festival realize the magnitude and importance of this celebration and
have come together to make sure the music of M.S. is forever remembered.
Concerts by Carnatic vocalists S. Sowmya and
Carnatica Brothers and Hindustani Vocalist Shubha Mudgal highlight the event.
Special Felicitations by Art Patron Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty and Padma Bhushan
K. Parasaran as well as the felicitation of Sangeetha Kalanidhi T. K. Murthy
will be other highlights of this distinguished assembly of Artists, Patrons
and Statesmen.
A special profile of the Legend by Gowri
Ramnarayan, disciple of M.S. and grandniece of T. Sadasivam brings a very
personal note to this tribute. This will be followed by a concert by S. Sowmya,
one of today’s leading vocalists. She will be presenting vintage M.S. hits. A
Hindustani vocal concert by Shubha Mudgal follows.
The second day of the festival, March 4 2006,
begins at 5 pm with an Audio Visual presentation of rare music and photos of
M.S., followed by a Carnatic Vocal concert dedicated to M.S. by Radha
Venkatachalam and a presentation of popular Classical Compositions of M.S. by
the Carnatica Brothers. There will also be a special thematic Dance
presentation highlighting the life of M.S. by Nitya Venkateswaran. A photo
gallery of M.S. as well as a collection of M.S.’s numerous CDs and audio tapes
