9-YEAR OLD'S CONFIDENT PERFORMANCE |
Carnatica Archival Centre and Naada Inbam are
organising a music festival captioned 'New Horizons' for 3 days from March
11, 2003. The focus is on unearthing new talent. The first programme was a
one-hour maiden concert by 9-year old Anahita.
Beginning the concert with Eranapai,
the Todi varnam, she captivated the full house with her excellent
padantaram and confidence. Sri Mahaganapati (Gowla) of Dikshitar
was rendered in chowka kala, with perfect diction and kalapramanam. The
Surati Vara kriti, Ankarakamasrayami (Roopaka) was sung with the
demeanour of a senior artiste. Two Tamil compositions in Shanmukhapriya
and Kambhoji brought out the raga lakshanas well. Sankari Sankuru
(Adi, tisra gati) in Saveri and Etavunnara in Kalyani were enough to prove
that her training has been on right path. Krishna nee in
Yamankalyani and the Tiruppugazh in Hamsanandi showed that the young
artiste has a good future. Vidwan S R Janakiraman blessed the child and
advised her to learn and sing many varnams in different talas and practise
in 'akara' mode to get at the right sancharas of ragas.
